Schreiberhaus
The Schreiberhause on Bräugasse is the town’s oldest civic residence. It is first mentioned in documents dated 1690. In the cellars, there is a clue suggesting that the building is even older – a plaster moulding of the date 1610. The timber-framed structure is actually much older still. An analysis of the wooden joists showed that the building was erected as early as 1430. That would place the Schreiberhause firmly in era of John the Count Palatine, who elevated Neumarkt to his town of residence in the early 15th century. The castle and town hall were also built during this period.
