Lothar Fischer Museum

back to overview

The Lothar Fischer Museum is dedicated to one of the most prominent post-war German sculptors. Lothar Fischer grew up in Neumarkt and remained closely associated with the town throughout his life. From 1975 to 1997 he was professor at the Hochschule der Künste or Art College of Berlin, and he was awarded numerous prizes for his work. He died at the age of 70, shortly before the museum was opened in summer 2004. Together with the local architects Gudrun and Johannes Berschneider, Fischer had himself designed the new building.
