Church of St John
The Church of St John is the most important church in the town. It was built between 1404 and 1434 and is dedicated to John the Baptist. During this period Count Palatine John made Neumarkt his residence and gave substantial support to the construction of the church. By medieval standards, the figure of St John is impressively big, a testimony to the affluence enjoyed by the town at the time. The church was originally surrounded by a graveyard. Today the 19th-century Georgsbrunnen or St George’s Fount provides a reminder of the graveyard chapel.
